CM to launch golden jubilee of Muthamizh Peravai Nov 24
The four-day Golden Jubilee celebrations of Muthamizh Peravai will be inaugurated by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Nov 24 at 430 PM The golden jubilee annual music festival will be held at TN Rajarathinam Kalai Arangam in RA Puram The first day program commence with Mangala Isai - TKS Meenakshisundaram and TSN Seshagopalan Nadaswaram with Thirupungur TG Muthukumarasamy on special thavil and Swamimalai C Gurunath on thavil. The concert will be followed by welcome address by Secretary of the Muthamizh Peravai Director P Amirtham and the function will be presided over by G. Ramanujem, president of the Peravai The Chief Minister will release of biography of Nadaswaram legend Thiruvavaduthurai TN Rajarathinam. He will also present the Kalaignar Award to Actor Sathyaraj, Rajarathna Award to Thirupampuram TKS Meenakshi Sundaram, Iyal Selvam Award to Andal Priyadarshini, and Isai Chelvam Award to Dr Gayathri Girish Nadaswara Chelvam Award to Thirukkadaiyur TSM Umashankar, Thavil Selvam Award to Swamimalai C Gurunathan, Gramiya Kalaichelvam Award to Dr T Somasundaram, Natyachelvam Award to Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala. The Chief Minister will deliver his golden jubilee address. Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam, executive committee member of the Peravai will propose a vote of thanks On Nov 25 at 5 30 PM, there will be a Nadaswaram concert by Thirukkadaiyur Dr T S Muralidharan and TSM Uma Shankar with Dharapuram V S Ganesh and Idumbavanam KSK Mani Kandan on the thavil followed by vocal concert by Vignesh Ishwar with Sayrasheth on violin, Thiruvarur Bakthavatsalam on the mridangam and Anirudh Athreya on the Kanjira. At 7 45 PM there will be a village folk art mela by T Somasundaram of Tamil Nadu Village Folk Arts Academy. On Nov 26, the program commences at 5 30 PM with a grand Nadaswaram concert by Sembonnarkoil SRGS Mohandas and Thiru Mylai K Selvam accompanied by Mannargudi SR Vasudevan on special thavil and Thirukkadaiyur T G Babu on the thavil On the same day at 6 30 PM there will be a Carnatic concert by Akkarai Sisters - S Subbulakshmi and S Sornalatha with Vittal Rangan on violin, Delhi Sairam on mridangam and P Sri Sundar Kumar on the Kanjira. It will be followed by a Bharatanatyam performance by Parvathi Ravi Ghantasala and her students of Kala Prardharshini School of Dance. On the final day at 5 30 PM, there will be a Nadaswaram concert by Dr A Vijay Karthikeyan and Idumbavanam V Prakash Ilaiyaraaja with Thirukkadaiyur T G Babu on special thavil and Idumbavanam KSK Manikandan on thavil. At 630 PM there will be a vocal concert by Gayathri Girish with B Anantha Krishna on the violin and N C Bharadwaj on the mridangam. At 7 45 PM, the celebrations end with a grand Bharatanatyam performance by Mutharasi Ravi and students of Kalai Kovil Dance School Sometime in mid 1974 senior Carnatic music stalwarts such as Sirkhazhi Govindarajan, Flute Ramani, Vazhuvoor Ramaiah Pillai met the then Chief Minister the late M Karunanidhi and requested him to set up a forum for Music Dance and Music (Iyal, Isai and Natakam) and pleaded with him to honor musicians every year. The late Chief Minister formed Muthamizh Peravai in 1974 and made Director P Amirtham and E V Rajan as secretaries The first year annual music concert was held at Yogalakshmi Kalyana Mandapam owned by Rajan till 2011. Stalwarts such as Mangalampalli Balamurali Krishna, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and M L Vasanthakumari sang In 2011, the State Government allotted the land in RA Puram and a beautiful state of the art auditorium was constructed and inaugurated by the late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. He kept up his promise to senior veteran artists that he will personally attend the award function each year at the Peravai and honor the artists. “He graced the annual events and awarded prizes every year from 2011 until he was active in public life. The Peravai was the dream and vision of the late leader and following his footsteps, the present Chief Minister M K Stalin had graced three annual award functions continuously and this is the fourth,” says G Ramanujem, president of the Peravai. Director P Amirtham has been serving as the founding secretary of the Peravai for the past 50 years since its inception. Ramanujem who was vice president three years ago became its president.
