Thamizhachi Thangapandian also known as Sumathy is a Tamil

poet, lyricist, orator, politician and writer. She was elected to

the Lok Sabha from Chennai South constituency in the 2019

general elections and is the sitting MP of the constituency

Born in 1962, she belongs to a prominent DMK family. Her

father the late V Thangapandian served an MLA and a Minister

in the Karunanidhi cabinet and now her brother Thangam

Thennarasu is the State Finance Minister.

She worked as a lecturer in English at Queen Mary’s College

before entering politics. A renowned writer, author and a poet,

Sumathy has written scores of books and novels in Tamil and

English. She is also a movie lyricist and a dialogue writer for

several Tamil films. She is one of the prominent woman leaders

and orators in the DMK.

She proudly calls herself as a mother, poet, academician orator,

performing artist, research scholar and a tech newbie. She is

married to C Chandrasekhar, IPS, and a retired IG of Police. She

won the Pavendhar Bharathidasan award of the Tamil Nadu

Government for her contribution to literature

Thamizhachi said the DMK government is implementing

schemes that benefits elderly women, housewives and young

women. It was DMK which ensured 50 percent reservation for

women in local bodies and again 50 percent reservation for

women in government jobs.
