Justice G R Swaminathan, Judge of the Madurai Bench of
the Madras High Court said here recently that the
construction of temple for Shri Ram at Ayodhya is the
first sign of decolonization. He said Madras State was
renamed as Tamil Nadu and similarly what was once
Babar Masjid has now become Ram temple and this is
also part of Dravidian Model
He was speaking after releasing a book “Decolonizing
India’ by noted author and journalist Balbir Punj
organized by Vigil in Mylapore
Swami Mithrananda head of Chinmaya Mission in
Chennai who received the first copy from Justice
Swaminathan said the construction of a temple on the
birth place of Lord Ram was a long pending demand of
Indians and it was witnessed by the way the entire
country and many parts of the world celebrated the
consecration of the holy shrine.
Balbir Punj in his acceptance speech said Muslim
residents of Ayodhya had no problem with the
construction of temple for Lord Ram and when the then
Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel wanted to
construct he faced with stiff opposition from the then
Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
The country was divided on the basis of religion during
independence thanks to the support of Gandhi but
Hindus had to wait for 75 years to build a temple in the
birth place of Lord Ram, he said.
